DIY: feltro e punto festone -DIY: felt & festone stitch-

Ci sono ancora...

In questi giorni ho preso una specie di pausa dai miei progetti perlinosi. Perché? Sono in una fase di ricerca di "stabilità" del progetto, ricerca della tecnica e dei materiali giusti per realizzare quello che la mia mente ha "visto". Di solito funziono così, vedo-disegno-provo... ed è questo "provo" che porta via tempo perché poi si sa' come finisce, si vede qualcos'altro e non ci si ferma più. Comunque, non sono ancora del tutto sicura delle mie scelte ed è proprio per questo che in questi giorni mi sono distratta col feltro ed ho deciso di realizzare questo tutorial per voi sul punto festone. :-)

            I'm still here... In these days I have taken a break from my beaded projects. Why? I'm searching some stability to realize my project, I'm searching for the right technique and materials to create what I have in my mind.  Usually I work in this way, see-draw-try... and while I'm trying I waste time, because than you know that you see other things and you can't stop trying. However, I'm not sure of my choices and for this reason in these days I distract myself with felt, and I have decided to realize this tutorial for you using festone stitch. :-)

Il punto festone unisce e chiude tra loro due tessuti sovrapposti, nel nostro caso feltro e pannolencio, e a mio avviso ci permette di avere un lavoro visivamente più pulito. E' dato da un insieme di linee o punti tra loro perpendicolari. Per dimostrarvi come ottenerlo ho scelto di realizzare un piccolo pesciolino rosso in feltro ma naturalmente potrete scegliere di creare qualsiasi cosa e magari coinvolgere i vostri bimbi come me per le ultime decorazioni. Se non siete bravi nel disegno vi consiglio di andare in cucina, rovistare tra le vostre formine per i biscotti e prenderne una in prestito per rubarle la sagoma! ;-)

Pronti? Si parte!

            Festone stitch bond and close between them two overlapping fabrics, in this case felt. When you use them you obtain a good looking job, made of perpendicular lines. To explain how to obtain this creation,  I have chosen to realize a little red fish with felt.  You can realize what you want and maybe you could  involve your babies for last decoration, like I did.  If you aren't good drawing, you can go in your kitchen and looking for your cookie shapes, chose one and steal its shape! ;-)

Are you ready? Go!

Per questo progetto vi occorreranno due sagome di feltro della stessa forma, forbici, ago e filo.

            For this project you need two felt shapes of the same dimension, scissor, needle and thread.

Fate combaciare tra loro le sagome, con il dito indice piegate leggermente all'indietro la sagoma posteriore ed entrate con l'ago nella sagoma anteriore dal dietro verso avanti.

            Bond between them the shapes of felt, bend back the posterior shape and with the needle enter in the anterior shape from the back to the front.

Riunite le due sagome di feltro e (*) rientrate con l'ago in entrambe da dietro verso avanti avendo cura di uscire con l'ago nello stesso punto di prima. Avete formato il primo tratto verticale.

            With a needle (*) enter in both shapes from the back to the front, then  get out from the same previous point. In this way you have obtained the first vertical stitch.

Infilate l'ago a sinistra e sotto tale punto.

            Insert the needle to the left and below this stitch.

Riportatevi con l'ago posteriormente a 5 mm di distanza dal punto precedente, entrate sempre da dietro verso avanti ma prima di tirare completamente il filo rientrate con l'ago al di sotto dell'asoletta che si è formata,  tirate il filo (**). Avete formato il primo tratto orizzontale.

            Take the needle behind at 0,19in of distance from the last stitch, enter always  from the back to the front, but before completely pulling the thread enter with the needle in the loop that you have created, then pull the thread(**). You have obtained the first horizontal stitch.

Ripetete i passaggi da (*) a (**) fino ad aver impunturato tutto il vostro lavoro.

            Repeat from (*) to (**) until you have finished your work.

Per realizzare l'ultimo tratto orizzontale e chiudere così il vostro lavoro infilate l'ago a sinistra e sotto il primo punto verticale eseguito.

            To realize the last horizontal stitch and close definitively your work, insert the needle to the left and below the first vertical stitch you have made.

Rientrate con l'ago nello stesso punto da davanti verso dietro.

            Enter with a needle in this stitch from the front towards the back.

Fate un nodo e poi tagliate il filo in eccesso.

            Make a knot and trim the thread in excess.

Che ne dite, non è semplice? Basta solo un po' di pratica!

            What do you think, is it easy? All you need is a little bit of practice!

In questo tutorial ho scelto di utilizzare feltro e filo a contrasto per facilitarvi nella "lettura" delle foto, per il vostro progetto scegliete voi.

Se volete un punto più netto potete scegliere di mettere  il filo in doppio (attenzione a non separali con l'ago nei vari passaggi e, soprattutto, a non intrecciarli), oppure di utilizzare un filo più spesso, in quest'ultimo caso vi consiglio di provare  prima se l'ago attraversa con facilità il vostro tessuto altrimenti sarà dura...

            In this tutorial I used felt and thread in contrast to help visualizing the project.

If you want a clear stitch you can decide to use double thread (make attention to not divide them with the needle and, above all, to not intertwine), or you can use a thick thread, in this last case I recommend you to prove if the needle enter easily in your fabric, otherwise work will be hard...

Ancora spirali :-) -Still soutache spiral :-)-

Ripensavo a quanto detto ieri... Un'altra tecnica che utilizzo per realizzare spirali soutache è quella con lo stiff-stuff. Lo stiff-stuff è un materiale semirigido che di norma viene impiegato nella tecnica Embrodery (quella del ricamo con perline), e che trovo essere molto utile quando bisogna realizzare spirali piuttosto grandi. Ed ecco dunque un secondo-mini-tutorial sulle spirali soutache, a mio avviso molto più pratico e veloce del precedente.

                I' m thinking about what I said yesterday... Another tecnique I use to make spiral soutache is the one with the stiff-stuff, a foundation to work with Embrodery tecnique that is very useful when we want to create large spiral. So, here a second tutorial about spiral soutache, in my opinion more practical and quick than the first tutorial I posted  yesterday.

In questo caso oltre ai materiali elencati ieri, matassina soutache-forbici-ago-filo, vi occorrerà avere a disposizione un po' di stiff-stuff (se proprio non lo avete potreste provare con del feltro semirigido).

                You need: soutache band, scissor, needle, thread and stiff-stuff (or other foundation like thin felt).

Create un piccolo taglio nello stiff-stuff di circa 1 cm e fateci passare attraverso la piattina soutache (circa 2 cm o poco più).

                Make a little cut into the stiff-stuff and get soutache through it.

Iniziate ad arrotolare la piattina in senso orario tirando bene ad ogni giro per evitare di creare delle "aperture" nel lavoro. Una volta raggiunta la dimensione desiderata fissate tra loro le fettucce con ago e filo.

                Roll up soutache in clockwise pulling well the band. When you have obtained the  right size hold the band spiral with needle and thread.

Infine, tagliate l'eccesso di stiff-stuff e nascondete le estremità soutache posteriormente. Ed eccola, spirale pronta.

                Cut stiff stuff in excess and hide in the back the soutache extremities.

Che ne pensate? Come già detto prima trovo che questa soluzione abbia diversi vantaggi: 1 è molto più rapida/pratica, 2 il tessuto semirigido ci fornisce un sostegno e ci permette di lavorare su di una superficie in piano, 3 possiamo realizzare in questo modo anche spirali piccole e scegliere di "eliminare" il supporto a fine lavoro se lo troviamo troppo ingombrante. Provate e... fatemi sapere!

                What do you think about it? For me this solution is great because: 1 it's practical, 2 stiff stuff is a well foundation to work on a flat surface, 3 we can make spiral of different dimension and then pull out foundation if it  is bulky. Try and... let me know!

Primo post, Primo tutorial -First post&tutorial-

Scrivere un blog, corteggio quest'idea da tempo. Poi, la mia "miglior amica" l'insicurezza (sai cosa fare? ...e se non riesci?) unita agli "impegni" familiari (sono mamma di 2 adorabili, curiosi maschietti...) mi ha tenuta lontana, diciamo. Ma adoro "chiacchierare" e molto, di quello che mi piace. E allora oggi mi lancio in questa nuova avventura senza pormi tanti interrogativi ai quali per ora non so rispondere ma con l'unico desiderio di poter parlare e condividere emozioni, esperienze e pareri con chi come me si è appassionato a questo mondo creativo.

                Write a blog... I dreamed it a long time ago. Then, my "best friend", insecurity (Do you know how to do?... and, what if you are not able?), together with "family responsibilities" (I'm a mum of 2 adorable boys...) keep me away, as to say. But I love a lot talking about what I like. And then, today I started this adventure without thinking about the consequences but with the only desire of talking and sharing  emotions, experiences and opinions with other people who love this creative world.

Nel mio ultimo progetto protagoniste con le perline sono le spirali soutache. Parlando tra amiche la domanda più ricorrente è 'Come fanno a "mantenersi"?'... E allora oggi vi spiego come le faccio io.

                In my last project I used beads and soutache. Talking with my friends, the most frequent question was 'How can spiral soutache stay stable?'... So, today I'll explain it.

Per lavorare in tranquillità vi consiglio di avere a portata di mano, insieme alla fettuccia ovviamente, 2 aghi per perline, del filo possibilmente dello stesso colore della fettuccia che avete scelto, forbici.

Pronti? Si parte. Allora, prendete la matassina soutache da un estremità, calcolate 3 cm di lunghezza e piegate la fettuccia su se stessa in maniera leggermente spostata verso destra. La fettuccia sotto sarà quella ancora legata alla matassina mentre quella sopra quella lunga 3 cm. Pinzate tra pollice e indice la piega appena fatta ed incominciate ad arrotolare sulla fettuccia soutache lunga.

                To create a spiral you need: soutache, 2 needle, thread of the color of your soutache band, scissor. Ready? Go.

Fold up soutache band with short extremity up. Clamp with thumb and finger the soutache folded and roll up on soutache long extremity.

   

Fatti un paio di giri inserite un primo ago (senza filo mi raccomando!) e fatelo passare all'interno della piccola spirale che avete iniziato a creare. Avvolgete ancora la fettuccia su se stessa e prima di spostare l'ago inserite il secondo in maniera che si trovi perpendicolare al primo. Quello che dovrete fare d'ora in avanti sarà spostare e riposizionare gli aghi uno alla volta man mano che il lavoro cresce e così la spiralina non si sposterà. In alternativa potrete  anche scegliere di utilizzare un ago solo e farlo scivolare da una parte all'altra nel lavoro. Una volta raggiunta la dimensione desiderata fermate le fettucce tra loro attraversando la spirale con ago e filo con punti piccolissimi, all'esterno dovranno apparire quasi invisibili.

                Insert a needle without tread in the spiral soutache, roll up soutache again and before removing needle insert a second needle perpendicular to the first. Go on until the right size, than hold band-spiral with needle and thread.

Tagliate le estremità in eccesso e, voila', spiralina pronta!               
                   Cut soutache in excess. Voila', your spiral is ready!
